Leomane Persists as a Single Mother in Haiti
It all started with a job for one single mother. And now, her five children have enough food to eat, can go to school, and have a roof over their heads.

Leomane’s husband left her and her five young children to fend for themselves.
As a single mother in Haiti, she struggled to provide for her children’s basic needs, including food, shelter, and education.
“I couldn’t send them all to school. I couldn’t even feed them. They would tell me they were hungry, and I just had to explain that I did not have anything to give them.”
Still, Leomane did whatever she could to protect them. From a pile of scrap materials, Leomane built a home, a one-room shack where they would all live together. And she kept looking for work.

Many women in Haiti attempt to earn an income by selling produce, candy, or used shoes and clothing, but they don’t earn enough to support a family.
So when our team heard about Leomane, they decided to offer her a job.
When she began working in the Welcome Home Haiti guest house, for the first time, she received a fair and steady salary. Her family was the recipient of food supplements through the community outreach program. And through the employee educational assistance program, she received funding to send all five of her children to school.
To further help her family, our team provided Leomane and her five children with a Welcome Home Haiti-built home. Now, she and her children are thriving under the protection of a safe and secure home, her children enjoy regular, nutritious meals, and they attend school.
Our team has witnessed Leomane achieve great success in her duties at Welcome Home Haiti, all while demonstrating a tireless faith and joy as she perseveres to provide for her family.
