A New Family for Patrick in Uganda

We’ve shared some of Patrick’s story before. But we’re excited to share an update with you!

After years of rejection and mistreatment, Patrick is not only flourishing at our boarding school but has been welcomed into a growing family who completely adores him.

His new family hopes to officially foster him soon. And he could not be happier.

Thank you for rejoicing with us in this amazing news. Praise God!

Imagine being told again and again that you’re unwanted.

That was Patrick’s* reality as he was repeatedly rejected, abandoned, and mistreated by his father, two aunts, and a neighbor.

When our social worker, Henry met with Patrick’s guardian, Patrick’s clothes were strewn across the lawn, and it was clear, she wanted nothing to do with him.

Patrick came into our team’s care in Uganda, and he was enrolled in third grade.

He excelled in math, but because his schooling had been so inconsistent, he struggled in other subjects. Now, he performs at the top of his class in all subjects.

Orphaned and vulnerable children who stay in our boarding school go home to their guardian or family during school breaks. To make sure everything is going well and they are safe, our team visits them and checks on them each week. When the school break came, Patrick had nowhere to go.

That’s when Aisha, the matron of his dorm, enthusiastically agreed to have him stay with her family.

At the time, she was a single mother, caring for her two children and her nephew.

They enjoyed the holiday together, so much so that when they returned to the ministry, Patrick told her he left some clothes at her house so he’d have them when he went back. Sure enough, the next holiday, Aisha’s sister and other family members called her to make sure she was bringing Patrick.

In 2023, Aisha began dating one of the teachers on our team, and by March of 2025, they were married.

Aisha and her husband have since decided to care for Patrick more permanently.

Now, in addition to clothes, he has his own mattress, food to eat, and a mother- and father-figure who have taken him in as their own.

Recently, when asked what he did over the school break, Patrick shared—

“I worked in the garden with my dad.”

Truly, God has done amazing things in Patrick’s life. From abandonment to belonging. From rejection to an enthusiastic invitation to be part of something bigger.

This is just the beginning of the miracle of a new family forming.
